
Claudia K. Suemoto
Associate Professor of the Discipline of Geriatrics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo
Claudia Suemoto is a physician graduated from the University of São Paulo School of Medicine (FMUSP), with a residency in Clinical Medicine and Geriatrics from the same institution. She has a PhD in Sciences, in which she researched the association between cardiovascular risk factors and dementia. She holds a master's degree in Epidemiology and a postdoctoral degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. Claudia is an Associate Professor of Geriatrics at FMUSP. She is a researcher at the Biobank for Studies on Aging at FMUSP and the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil). Her research focuses on normal brain aging, dementia, and their associations with cardiovascular diseases. In 2016, she was one of the laureates of the "For Women in Science" award promoted by L'Oreal, UNESCO, and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. In 2022, she received the Ewald W. Busse Research Award in the Biomedical Sciences for her contribution to aging studies. Claudia is an Associate Editor of the journals BMC Geriatrics, Frontiers in Neurology (Dementia and Neurodegenerative Diseases), Dementia & Neuropsychologia and the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research. Claudia is a member of the Advisory Council of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART) and is Vice Chair of the Diversity Professional Interest Area of ISTAART. Research interests: Her main area of interest is the study of risk factors for dementia, especially the association between cardiovascular diseases and dementia.
